58 Custom Fellows & Stewart Motoryacht

$167,500.00

Description

Yacht World Number: 3163318
Located in La Paz, Mexico
Year: 1930
Hull Material: Wood

Content was built in 1930, at the Fellows & Stewart yard in San Pedro, California. She’d been commissioned by Ezra Fitch of Abercrombie and Fitch fame, as his retirement gift to himself. He planned to explore the rivers of South America but never made it, dying on board some six months after she was launched, in Santa Barbara. In the years that followed she became well known for entertaining Hollywood royalty over on Catalina Island.

Repowered 3 years ago with twin Italian Iveco 150 engines. The new engines are very efficient, with tons of excess power and extremely frugal – 1.6gals per hour @ 1000 RPM, giving 6kts. And that’s for BOTH engines! Full speed is 14kts @2800 RPM, and she sounds like a Ferrari.

Located in the heart of the world’s best cruising grounds. La Paz, Mexico, the gateway to the Sea of Cortez. Dozens of gorgeous anchorages with white sand beaches, crystal clear warm turquoise water, many within a days sail to downtown La Paz.

Accommodations

She’s 58ft long, and 15ft wide, and draws less than 6ft. There are four main areas. The forepeak has a double and two single berths, and its own head, and good storage.

Aft, the master cabin has a double and single, a very nice head, and a full-size shower.

The pilothouse is a good size, with table and stools, and a very comfy sofa. Most fittings and furnishings seem to be original. The compass was made in Boston in 1928, for example, and it still works.

Beneath the pilothouse, there’s a huge engine room, with workbench and lots of storage.

The Galley and diner is in front of the Aft cabin. The Dickinson Atlantic stove, with a large flat hotplate and a huge oven, is our cooker and heat provider.

Finally, out at the back of the boat is the aft cockpit. This is fully covered, which keeps the sun and rain off, and that’s where we generally eat. It is also a good fishing platform.

Mechanical

The original White Superior twin 100 diesels were still in operation when current owners bought Content. They’d been lightly used in the last 20 years, but as hours started to pile, exploring the Georgia Strait and Desolation Sound, they started to show their age.

After quite a few months of research, settled on a pair of Italian Iveco 150s. These are normally-aspirated, with mechanical lift-pump….nice and simple. Designed to run with diesel filtered to only 15 micrograms, which is very forgiving.

The new engines are very efficient, with tons of excess power if ever needed, and extremely frugal – 1.6gals per hour @ 1000 RPM, giving 6kts. And that’s for BOTH engines! Full speed is 14kts @2800 RPM, and she sounds like a Ferrari.
